Last night was much better than Brandt's first! Mom took a turn staying with him, and actually ended up rocking him most of the night, which was evidently much appreciated. He slept well, took his X-ray, daily weight, and labs like a champ! We even got a dirty diaper out of him, followed by about 13 more, so we can check that off the list.
With all the good, though, he had to throw one little kink into things. Sometime during the night, he pulled out one of his drain tubes! The most active one, to be specific. For the time being we've just got it taped up, but we're watching it closely now. The plan is to replace it eventually, but we have to wait until there's enough fluid there so they have a place to put the new tube. After two X-rays and an ultrasound, they decided that there's not enough for the time being, so they upped his diuretics to hopefully prevent fluid overload, and will do follow-up X-rays the next few days to see if anything changes.
He spent most of the day just sleeping and eating on occasion. He's been a little out of it for a lot of the morning, but now he's communicating again and interested in food...food hasn't always liked him back, though...he threw up once after chugging his Gatorade too fast...whoops!
Just did a dressing change, which was apparently traumatic. Rocking and being smothered in all of his blankets has him a significantly more cheerful now.
Oh, and we have him down to one liter of oxygen, with his sats still holding steady in the low 90's!
Anyway, that's all for tonight! Making progress, but not a whole lot to report on.

Kara, So glad to hear about the small items of progress. They may seem small, but
ReplyDeleteeach one is a necessary step of healing, so that makes them "great". I'm glad for y'all. Scott spoke about that at GF SM.
