A big day!

Sitting up a little more today,
eating a little better, and weaned down to
1L on his oxygen while still satting 90+!
The day started out with needing to replace an IV. Never fun, but it happens, especially on toddlers...squirmy little gremlins that they can be! Got that placed, no problem. Eventually, we got the results back from his morning X-ray...There still isn't enough fluid by his lung to replace the drain tube, which is both awesome and baffling. At the rate it was draining before we lost that tube, we expected it to refill in a hurry, but it seems to have just stopped dead! On the other side, he only drained about 75 mLs over the last 24 hours...also very odd, because most kids at this stage are still draining hundreds. We do have him on extra diuretics to make sure he doesn't surprise us with anything, but basically, he's just proving himself to be an overachiever!

I'm chalking it up to the fact that Mom's done some acupressure on him a few times since Thursday morning, focusing on his liver and kidneys. The liver, in this scenario, is under huge strain while it filters all the anesthesia and drugs that we've thrown at it. The kidneys are in charge of processing fluid. Coincidence? I think not. Especially considering that he's done in three days what most kids do in a week or two.

Oh, and we even got dressed today.
Ignore the peg leg...it's supposed to help
his IV stay in place. (Spoiler alert:
It didn't work.)
He was pretty chatty today, too! Telling us what he wanted and what he most emphatically did not want. The latter was mostly directed towards people with gloves touching him. I've felt awful for him all day, because generally, they come to pester him right as he's trying to fall asleep! At least three times today he was woken up from the start of a nap for vitals or to have his pacer wires taken out (yay!) or something. He's been getting pretty behind on sleep.

He was feeling good enough to make a trip down to the play room, though...that's a big deal! We loaded him, a portable monitor, his drain tube stuff, and a tank of oxygen up onto a wheelchair, and lugged him downstairs and halfway across the hospital to accomplish it. He had a ball, though, so it was worthwhile! The train table was a big hit, as was the Hotwheels racetrack and the blocks (for knocking over, of course). It lasted all of about 15 minutes when I realized that he had pooped. On me, and a few other things. So we untangled all his wires and tubes and rushed ourselves back upstairs. After a diaper change, we snuggled up in the chair and he fell asleep as we watched Frozen. It doesn't take much to wear him out at this point.

Woo-hoo! Trains!
Ironically, he got to end the day with a new IV being placed yet again. This one got kinked, and, judging by the screaming, was pretty painful when they tried to use it. I walked Wade back to the Ron-Don while they did that (don't want to give him any hospital phobias if I can help it) and whipped up some spaghetti and garlic bread for dinner. I've sorely missed home cooked food. Kind of odd, honestly, because when I'm home, I have to force myself to not think up excuses to eat out, but now that I have a perfect excuse to eat out constantly, I find that I miss cooking. Something odd is happening to me.

Whew. Long day.
